This custom-spec Les Paul from Gibson's Greatest Hits Collection is visually inspired by one specific 1959 Les Paul Standard, the guitar pictured as #78 in Yasuhiko Iwanade's book The Beauty of the 'Burst: Gibson Sunburst Les Pauls from '58 to '60. A hand-picked AAA figured maple top was chosen to match that original, and its color treatment follows the book's page 78 specification, while the back, rim, and neck wear a Medium Cherry aniline dye.
The resonant, warm-sounding lightweight mahogany body and hide glue-fit construction are finished in Murphy Lab Light Aged nitrocellulose lacquer, giving the guitar a broken-in, well-preserved look and feel right out of the case. The mahogany neck is carved to the Carmelita profile, a slightly thinner-than-usual C shape that recreates the feel of a true vintage '59, and is joined with a long tenon. A 12"-radius Indian rosewood fingerboard carries aged cellulose trapezoid inlays and historic medium-jumbo frets.
A pair of unpotted, double-aged white Custombucker Alnico 3 humbuckers deliver the dynamic, rich, and clear sound of a vintage PAF. In a nod to how many original 'Bursts were found and played, the nickel silver pickup covers ship in the case rather than installed. A no-wire ABR-1 bridge, a lightweight aluminum stop bar tailpiece, Kluson single-line, single-ring tuners, gold top hat knobs, and an amber switch tip complete the period-correct details. It comes in a Brown/Pink Lifton Reissue 5-Latch case with a Certificate of Authenticity.
