THE MARTIN OM-28 AND 000-28 MODERN DELUXE GUITARS
At NAMM 2019, Martin Guitars released the new Modern Deluxe line of acoustic guitars. Consisting of two dreadnoughts (a D-18 and D28) as well as toe smaller bodied guitars (the OM-28 and 000-28), the Modern Deluxe line is Martin's take on mixing modern features with a vintage flair.
These guitars are packed with custom features and modern technology that you have to see, feel, and hear for yourself. The vintage appointments include a Sitka spruce Vintage Tone System (VTS) top, a dovetail neck joint, and natural protein glue construction, giving these guitars the rich, fully aged Martin tone that has inspired generations. With flamed maple or East Indian rosewood binding, stylish gold frets, gold open-gear tuners, and a 1930s style script logo on the headstock, the Modern Deluxe look is unlike anything in the Martin production line to date. Some ultra-modern features include a titanium truss rod, Liquidmetal bridge pins with red dots, and a composite carbon fiber bridge plate that boosts the volume without adding weight. Martin also included a new neck shape that is slightly asymmetrical for maximum hand comfort up and down the fretboard.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE OM-28 AND 000-28 MODERN DELUXE GUITARS?
A question that always comes up, is what is the difference between an OM and a 000. Whether it is a Standard, Modern Deluxe, or another series, just by looking at the guitars the main difference may be a little elusive, but the answer is actually simple. The main difference between an OM and a 000 is the scale length, which is the distance between the nut of the guitar and the bridge. The OM models have a scale length of 25.4" while the 000 has a shorter scale length of 24.9". A shorter scale length equates to strings with less tension, so they can be a little easier to play.
