Though it hasn’t always received the same spotlight as iconic flat-tops like the J-45™ and Hummingbird™, discerning players have long appreciated it for its distinctive voice and exceptional playability. As Gibson’s flagship round-shoulder flat-top, it continues to earn its place among the most sought-after guitars for top-tier musicians worldwide.

Gibson now unveils the Southern Jumbo 40s Original, a model that honors its 1942 lineage while incorporating thoughtful modern refinements. It features the new Gibson-exclusive Baggs™ HiFi DNA™ pickup system, custom-voiced specifically for Gibson acoustic guitars. Delivering remarkable realism when amplified, HiFi DNA faithfully captures your instrument’s individual character and translates every detail of your performance to your audience with exceptional accuracy.

Building on the familiar foundation of a great J-45, this version elevates performance with solid rosewood back and sides, delivering enhanced low-end depth, sparkling highs, and expansive projection. A solid Sitka spruce top provides a responsive, touch-sensitive feel with impressive dynamic range, and its tonal character continues to develop over time. Multi-ply binding on both the top and back adds a refined visual detail.

The guitar features a mahogany neck shaped in a comfortable SlimTaper profile, allowing for effortless chord work and fluid flatpicking. Its rosewood fretboard carries 20 standard frets and is adorned with classic split parallelogram inlays crafted from mother of pearl.

At the headstock, smooth-operating, nickel-plated Grover® open-back tuners pair with a bone nut for reliable tuning stability. The peghead is finished with a vintage-inspired Gibson script logo decal. The rosewood belly-down bridge, designed with a closed slot, includes two mother-of-pearl dot inlays, a bone saddle, and TUSQ® bridge pins. A tortoise shell-colored teardrop pickguard completes the instrument’s classic aesthetic.

Inside, the Southern Jumbo 40s Original is equipped with the all-new Gibson-exclusive Baggs™ HiFi DNA™ pickup system. This active design utilizes dual lightweight sensors mounted on the internal bridge plate, each with its own preamp, to deliver a rich, natural, amplified tone that preserves the guitar’s inherent character without affecting its unplugged sound, with comparable gain-before-feedback to an under-saddle pickup. Discreet soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls provide quick access for on-the-fly adjustments while remaining virtually invisible to your audience.

Combining timeless design, the lush tonal pairing of rosewood and Sitka spruce, effortless playability, and advanced onboard electronics, the Southern Jumbo 40s Original is an instrument you’ll continually reach for. It includes a Gibson hardshell case for reliable protection at home, or on the road to your next performance.

SN: 22246036

Back & Side Wood: Solid Indian Rosewood

Body Size: Slope Shoulder Dreadnought

Top Wood: Sitka Spruce

Nut Width: 1.725"

Neck Shape: Slim Taper

Bracing Pattern: "X" Scalloped

Scale Length: 24.75"

Pickup: LR Baggs - HiFi

Tuners: Grover Open Back

Case: Hardshell

Call or Message for more details on this fine guitar.
*Photos shown are of the actual guitar for sale.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0273/8690/4662/files/836C2D0F-0F96-4537-AA22-B9F0EC16B38E.jpg?v=1791154202
